Nathan Gelber
Founder & Chief Investment Officer

Nathan is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Stamford Associates Limited. Prior to establishing the business in 1984, he worked for Orion Bank in London and Hill Samuel and Co.

Nathan has a wealth of investment experience spanning over 40 years. Indeed, there can be few peers within the investment consulting industry who have been researching, assessing and monitoring investment managers for as many years as Nathan on a global basis and with the same absolute focus on value creation, protection of clients’ interests and behavioural appraisals of investment decision making processes.

Roger Cobley
Chairman

Roger Cobley has been Stamford’s Chairman since 2005 and has spent his entire professional career working in pensions and investments both as an international consultant and as a corporate international employee benefits Director. He is a Past President of the Pensions Management Institute, Past Chairman of the Independent Pension Trustee Group, and has served on the Accounting Standards Board Pensions Advisory Panel and pensions committees of several professional bodies.

As well as being a Fellow of the PMI, Roger is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries. He has chaired a number of pension scheme trustee boards and has sat on various pension scheme investment committees.

Terry Morgan
Chief Financial & Operations Officer

Terry is Stamford’s Chief Financial & Operations Officer. He has been with the company for over 12 years, having previously been Director of Finance & Compliance and Senior Vice President for M&A firms and Group Company Secretary and Controller in technology businesses following a career in audit & assurance.

Terry is a Member of the Chartered Securities Institute, a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant, Fellow International Accountant and Chartered Secretary and has an MSc in Accounting with Finance from London South Bank University.

Max Gelber
Head of Business Development

Max is Stamford’s Head of Business Development and is responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with new clients. Prior to joining Stamford he was Director and Investment Analyst at MMIP Services Limited, with several years’ experience evaluating global hedge fund managers.

Max holds an MSc in Management from Imperial College London and a BSc in Psychology from York University.

Ben Fox, CFA
Head of Fixed Income

Ben is Stamford’s Head of Fixed Income and is responsible for the research and monitoring of Fixed Income and Credit strategies and investment managers. He has been researching investment managers for over 20 years and prior to joining Stamford was Head of Multi-Alternatives at BMO Global Asset Management and previously a Founding Partner of Goodhart Partners.

Ben holds an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and is a CFA charterholder.

Duncan Burden, CFA
Head of Manager Research

Duncan is Head of Manager Research within our Investment Team, with responsibility for leading efforts in identifying new portfolio managers. Prior to joining Stamford, Duncan spent six years as an equity research analyst at Sanlam.

Duncan has a First Class BSc (hons) in Biology from the University of Nottingham and is a CFA charterholder.

Prof. Adrian Furnham
Principal Adviser

Adrian is Principal Adviser at Stamford Associates. Adrian provides advice to us on our behavioural evaluation of investment managers, including in relation conduct and culture. He is also Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Exeter University, the Norwegian Business School and Verdana University.

Adrian has a DPhil from Oxford University, a DSc from London University and is author of over 90 books and 1250 scientific papers.

August Ekstrom, CPsychol
Behavioural Consultant

August is one of Stamford’s Behavioural Consultants, applying his professional expertise in making behavioural observations with respect to our ongoing evaluation of investment managers and their decision-making processes.

August started his career as a clinical psychologist in Sweden’s public health service and subsequently worked in Sweden as a consultant, creating and delivering management development programmes as well as leadership training and executive coaching. He is a qualified Chartered Occupational Psychologist and holds a double MSc in Clinical and Occupational Psychology from Stockholm University.

Clare Murphy
Behavioural Consultant

Clare is one of Stamford’s Behavioural Consultants, with substantial experience of embedding behavioural observations into an applied psychology framework. She has been involved in academia for over 20 years and has extensive client experience, having worked in the public and private sector in various specialist areas. She holds two Masters Degrees (Psychology and Quantitative Analysis) and her PhD draws heavily on behavioural economics in the development of clinical case formulations. She has published in the area of clinical psychology, psychoanalysis, psychodiagnostics and European policy development.

Karling Wan, MCIPD
Human Resource & Office Manager

Karling is Stamford’s Human Resource & Office Manager, providing solutions for our resourcing and operational requirements. She joined Stamford in 2014 and has some 20 years’ experience working in the financial services industry, spanning investment banking, asset management and private equity.

Karling is a fully qualified Chartered Member of the CIPD.
